In the Métis settlement of St. Laurent, Manitoba, Chuck meets the Chartrand brothers, who take him muskrat trapping. Julien and Roy relive their childhood memories as they show Chuck how to trap the animal, known in the Michif language as a “rat d’eau”. Chuck learns how to dry the pelts of his catches on a rack. Once sought after for its fur, the animal is now trapped solely for its meat, which can be used to make delicious roasts.
